The perfect solution to looking and feeling amazing on your wedding day

Every bride wants to look her best on her wedding day, but how you get there can be a challenge.  With that said, I am happy to introduce a great resource to help you prepare for your wedding in a healthy and happy way.  Her name is Sarah Jenks, founder of The Breathtaking Bride and she will be sharing some of her tips with us over the next few weeks.  Sarah’s philosophy is truly a breath of fresh air in this culture of crash dieting.

Today’s tip: Get rid of the deadline
Deadlines create WAY too much stress, and stress creates discomfort in our minds and our bodies.  When we have discomfort, we search for relief and the cheapest and easiest relief is rich, salty, sugary foods.

Lose the deadline and shift your focus on how to feel good everyday.  Not only will you avoid having an absolutely miserable engagement, but you will be creating habits you can carry with you long after the wedding.

Exercise to relieve stress in the momentEat fruits and veggies to give you sustained energyStop eating when your hunger has subsided (not when you are full) to avoid feeling bloated and nauseous

Our thanks to Sarah for those great tips.  We’ll be posting more advice over the next few weeks. In the meantime check out www.thebreathtakingbride.com

Top Tips to Personalise Your Wedding

Instead of letting a wedding planner turn your wedding into another sausage factory event, use your imagination to make the event one-of-a-kind and really personalise it to you and your fiance.

Sassy Stationery
Your invitations are the first thing your guests see and should reflect your tastes, helping to set the theme of your wedding right form the start. If you were proposed to on a white sandy beach in the Caribbean, or in Paris, why not use an image reflecting this on your invites. Check out Scissor Paper Stone’s Snapshot range.

Get family and friends involved
The great thing about weddings (other than the obvious!) is that it brings people together. People love to be involved, so if you have a friend or family member that has a skill or talent, utilize it! If you’re aunt does flower arranging, ask her to do the bouquets and arrangements; if your brother’s in a band, ask him to do the music — little touches like this help to personalise your wedding and make the day even more special.

Catering with a twist
Rather than having the standard wedding meal, try to think of something that means something to you. If you have a favourite restaurant, why not ask them to do the food; if you have Czech heritage, duck and dumplings could be the main course!

Dress to impress
Let’s face it, a lot of wedding dresses are pretty run of the mill these days — why not make yours stand out with a personal twist! If green is your favourite colour, why not dress in green? It’s your choice!

Sporty Transport
A limousine is lovely, but why not do something a bit different and depart the church or reception in something that really represents you as a couple. Some fun examples include a double-decker bus; scooter; vintage cab; boat — have fun with it!

In Wedding Magazine there’s a real-life wedding story of one of our brides. The couple chose beautiful fuchsia pink peonies from our flower library to match the floral arrangements on the day.

Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz were married in a secret wedding earlier this month. The ceremony took place in front of a small group of family members at a friend’s house in the Bahamas. Cruz wore a dress by her longtime friend John Galliano for the intimate vows.

Bridal-Bodied or white dress-Bust?

Well, I am exhausted.

I have traded my traditional Lazy-Sunday for, argh, the gym.
I like to run, especially outdoors, this coming from the girl who had any excuse for not doing PE at school. However, I like to eat food more…
I have never liked anything about exercise. I just had to spell check the word….
Sweating, yuk. Heaving, yuk.
Gym? You mean Jim??
I have never joined one properly. I have paid for one before, been a few times, then just stopped. One hangover too many maybe?

The point is this…. I am doing this.
Last year I lost 10kgs! I was chuffed to bits, but this year- since getting engaged- I have put on 4kgs!!! Disaster.
This is not how its supposed to be!!! Ahhhhhh

Its not just because I am getting married & put on weight or that I want to look utterly stunning for the day, but I seem to have developed a need to raise money for charity, by means of using my body to achieve something.
Weird. I know.
I know loads of people do this, but I have never really appreciated it much before. Though I have sponsored them!

It started with my Prince’s Trust stint- The Tower 42 challenge on 30th September, which I am training for. Now, I seem to be entering runs.
I know!!!
My PE teachers would have a turn.

I also want to help raise money for more local charities.
Maybe I am growing up or maybe I am just ready to do something good with my time??!!! Or maybe I have found a way to stay motivated.

I hear people bang on about it all the time- too much in fact, but I seem to have found it for myself.

So, the thing is, I have realised that I can get Bridal Bodied. I can. I just need to find a better reason than pure vanity!
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good, but I also want to feel good.
Anyway, its like a revelation to me!

I recently got shin splints after running a new track in my new home-town. Ouch. But all this fancy gym equipment gives me a chance to do other cardio instead.
This is all well & good, but I like to have some well-being tossed in. Yoga (love it), Pilates (new to it) & Body Conditioning (terrified of it).

A slight warning to those who are NOT so experienced with their leisure centre gym… the receptionists are worse than useless, there are hidden costs & only go if they have Power Plates!

Right, well I am off to eat : )
Finally.

Got any top tips for us Bridal-Bodied to Be’s? Let us know! We need ALL the help we can get!!

Rapunzel, Rapunzel…

…. Let down your hair!
Or have it up. Or in plates? Ribbons? Flowers? Cut it short maybe?

I would like to morf into Kim Kardashian’s hair, what can’t you do with all those glossy curls?!

Maybe I would like it lighter, like Jennifer Anniston….

I do know, I want to look like me. But a Princess version.

Here’s some hair inspiration for you! (And for me!)

Check out Hair Styles Up for some great looks & don’t forget Yarwood White or Glitzy secrets to top off your look!

Best advise though would be to choose your favourite styles & take them to your hairdresser.. let them tell you what will or won’t look good.
If you are like me- inbetween hairdressers- get a few trials done, you’re better regretting it now, not later!!!!

Our new Sponsor! James Ruane Photography

Hey wedding lovers!

We are giving a big new Electric welcome today to one of our new sponsors! Hurrah!

James Ruane is a wedding photographer who is still relatively new on the scene, but not so new that he hasn’t got some fabulous experience under his belt!  As we have mentioned before, we love to support and shout out about new and start up businesses, and James was a perfect example of someone we wanted to share with you all!

We asked him to tell us a bit about himself to introduce you all to him….all photography is by James Ruane.

‘I’m 34, half Irish and a new hot, up and coming wedding photographer. I live in London with my gorgeous wife and only recently got married in March 2010. It was the best day of my life!

I’ve always had quite a creative and arty background, but my photography habit originally started as a hobby in my late teens after back packing around Australia. I feel in love with the work of landscape photographer Peter Lik and after the tripalways dreamed that I would be a successful photographer one day.

I studied art and design at school and then public relations at university and needing to balance my urge to be the next David Bailey, with the reality of earning money, I spent the bulk of my career working in PR for some of the world’s biggest and best known brands.

After 10+ years juggling PR with my photography career, which literally involved photographing everything from weddings to friend’s christenings and numerous family portraits to new club nights, I decided to take the plunge and chase my real dream. Hence after years of planning I officially launched James Ruane Photography this year and have never looked back since.

I have developed a natural and spontaneous style that goes against the overly posed feel often associated with wedding pictures. To capture how a wedding really feels I like to mix different styles together from reportage to more glamorous shots of the bride and groom that you’d normally find in editorial.

I never leave home without my camera and to my family I am affectionately known as ‘snapshot’, as I love taking pictures of people. This is why I love to photograph weddings. They are a photographer’s dream packed with so much drama, atmosphere, emotion and fun.

Nothing gives me a buzz more than capturing all the spontaneous and natural moments that can often go unnoticed and I work really hard to get to know every bride and groom I work with, so when it comes to the big day, they are much more relaxed infront of the camera.

Whilst I photograph weddings all over the UK, most of my work is carried out in London and the southeast. I have photographed some fantastic wedding venues from castles to country houses and some of my favourites include Hedsor House and Bisham Abbey in Buckinghamshire and Somerset House and Orleans House in London.

You can follow my photography journey on my photoblog. Whilst I mainly photograph weddings, I still carry out various private assignments like portrait photography, christenings, and parties.

I hope like my work and if you do, please get in touch, as I would love to shoot your wedding!’

If you would like to find out more about James, then visit his website here

Love

Emma xx

Get your Groove on

I gotta feeling wooo hoooo, that’s tonight’s gonna be a good night, that tonight’s gonna be a good, good night….

I was listening to music yesterday. I know right, nothing unusual about that, but it was one of those liberating moments.
I don’t normally crank it up in the car as I think showing off with music blaring is an attention seeking act I want no part of. I still don’t, but I did it at the weekend.

I was listening for wedding playlists & got lost in the love of the new Mark Ronson album, don’t ask how I got my sticky mits on it already, but do go buy it if you like Bang Bang Bang!

Anyway, it got me thinking about the first dance. What are the best tunes?
Have you googled this before?? OMG. Cheesetastic.
I know its supposed to be romantic, but Phill Collins is wedding magazine’s number 1???
Not for me thanks!

Well I want to give you some ideas… a bit of an alternative list…
These I have either heard at a wedding or have heard positive responses!
To keep it down from 100… here’s 10 for today’s considerations

10. Rome wasn’t Built in a Day- Morcheeba
Kind of simbolises a relationship for me. It was my friend Rachel’s first dance song, 7 years ago.. and I still remember it for being such a geat choice!!
9. Dangerously In Love 2, Beyonce
Not overplayed, cool & groovy, full of passionate love!
8. Closest thing to Crazy, Katie Melua
7. You got the love, Florence & The Machine or Candi Staton Version
6. Starry Eyed, Ellie Goulding
5. Deja Vu, Beyonce
4. Gold, Beverly Knight
3. Praise You, Fatboy Slim
2. Love Lockdown, Kanye West
1. Come Away with Me, Norah Jones

Norah Jone’s Come Away with me has been a favourite of mine for sometime… long before I met Rob, I was lying on the beach in Bali listenign to it & it just felt so dreamy.

I’d LOVE to know what yours were or are going to be?! Please do tell.

Shake your Tamberella!

The Bridal Pampering Package!

Morning all,

Hope you are enjoying your week so far & getting on with wedding plans?!
That reminds me, I really must crack on with my own…

Today I have for you a Bridal dream pampering package. If you live in, around or have easy access to East London, you are in for a super treat!

Virginia Williams is a Beauty Care Studio based in South Woodford (E18). I have frequented the studio myself on many occasions, not to mention I have treated my fiance to an amazing Holistic Massage! If I needed browie points I’d be minted.
He LOVED it.
And I love this haven!

Tracey, now one of our sponsors, who also runs Time Of Life, has an incredible range of Bridal Packages.
She also got married last year so knows exactly how you feel & can completely empathise! Not only did she get married, she married in Suzanne Neville, In Italy….
I will let her tell you more in good time!

Today I bring you two of the Bridal Services the Virginia Williams Skin Studio offers…

“To get a bespoke beauty package at Virginia Williams was one of the best decisions I took whilst planning my wedding. Not only I looked great on my wedding day but also I got these very necessary moments of ‘me time’ during the hectic preparations. It was a relieve to stop for a few hours to have a body wrap, manicure or prescriptive facial. The treatment is so caring and personal I keep coming again and again even though I live over 10 miles away!” Gemma

The Bridal Consaultation & Plan
30 mins, £30

This is your initial consaultation before you start the Finale & Finishes Package.

Your 30 minute consultation is split into four parts:
• Comprehensive consultation;
• Facial Skin Scanning;
• Facial Skin Analysis; and
• Full Body Analysis
“The consultation is supported by a pre consultation questionnaire which can be downloaded from the website, completed and emailed back to me before your visit. The cost of this consultation is £30.00 and is deducted from your final bill. Following the consultation, I work on the best possible treatment plan, regime and timetable to meet your requirements, needs and timescale. I then e-mail or send this out by post and follow up some days later with a telephone call.
The beauty treatment plan sets out a month by month carefully constructed timetable of customised face and body treatments. To make life, planning and beauty management easier I suggests dates and times. I believe in building a close professional relationship with all my brides. I also believe in the importance of working closely with all brides to achieve beauty goals. Brides tell me they love the idea of allowing me to take complete control of this aspect of their wedding preparation, leaving them to focus on other aspects of their wedding plans”

“The Bridal Beauty Service – was fabulous. This service is essential to any bride who wishes to give away some of her wedding preparations – Virginia took care of my entire bridal beauty needs, allowing me tick this off my to do list” Monique

The Finale & Finishing Touches Package
4 Hours, £110

This is a completely personal service based on your 30 mins consaultation.
Finale & Finishing Touches… Personal pampering? What’s not to love?!

Your 4 hours includes;
* A Glass of champagne & nibbles on arrival
* Perscriptive Facial
* Aromatherapy Neck, Back & Shoulder Massage

Bringing Brixton To Our Table Plans

Hey wedding fans!

I wanted to show you our table plan today – because it was home made and I think it looked fab!

The table plan at our wedding was in the end home made. I had toyed with the idea of getting one made but we just ran out of time, and in the end Matt’s mum said she would do it – and it looked fab!

We named all our tables after places in Brixton. We got a map of Brixton, and then took it to the printers who blew it up for us.

Our top table was named after The Dogstar, which is where Matt and I first met after I had been to a Primal Scream gig at Brixton Academy.

Each table had a photo of the place it was named after, and a short paragraph on the other side of the table card as to why that place is linked to me and Matt.

We both love living in Brixton, so we thought it was cool to be able to include it!

Hope you like it too!

Love

Scribbling the Love!

Hello Wednesday!

While we are on the Blue Peter vibe, I wanted to show you all our ideas for name places. Well actually, this was Matt’s mum’s genius idea.

So here we go on how to do it!

Step 1: Get a piece of paper for each guest

Step 2: Draw a circle template on each one, placemat size.

Step 3: Cut them out (yes this is tedious I am not going to lie!)

Step 4: Write everyone’s name on each one in felt tip

That’s it!

We then put them on the tables as name places so people knew where to sit, and then we put little jam jars on the tables full of felt tip pens. Inside the menu, we wrote

‘You will notice you have been given a blank paper placemat and several jars of felt tip pens. The rest is up to you!’

All the guest decorated their own placemat, and then afterwards we collected them all up – and stuck them all up at the BBQ we had the next day so everyone could see them. We are going to bind them all together into a book to keep. We thought it was more fun than a guest book!

And before you ask, yes we did get a fairly large amount of rude drawings… boys will be boys eh?

Love

Emma xx
